I have a DT6 6HP 2 stroke Suzuki outboard that runs great at full throttle but stalls at 2/3 speed and won't start in idle. I started the engine at full throttle, backed it off until it almost stalled, kicked it in gear. Then cranked it back up to full throttle and ran it for 2 ½ hours. I have tried adjusting the reed valves and put the carburetor on a 4hp Suzuki engine and that engine ran just fine. I retired after 50 yrs as a heavy duty mechanic but have little experience with gas 2 strokes. Has anyone else experienced this problem? |

I just purchased a sailboat that has a 1993 DT6. I have only ran the motor 2 times. Both times I choked it, opened up the throttle 1/2 way and it started right up. It runs great for about 30 secs and then cuts off. If I increase the throttle more than 1/2, it runs okay. Even after it is warmed up, if cuts off if the throttle is below about 1/2. Also, I don't have an owner's manual. What is the oil/gas ratio? |
