when i go offshore i run at 4000 rpm going out and i have NO probems coming home going wit the surf i go about 4500 -4800 rpm. after a short time the enngine will drop rpm to about 2800rpm for maybe 3-4 sec and then back to original rpm it will do this continually till I get back to shore any ideas?? could it be neutral safety switch no lights are coming on but could it be getting hot without alarms??

i am having a similar problem with my 115 four stroke it runs fine from idle speed to 2800 rpms and if i try to exceed that it just jerks and jerks and won't go one rpm higher than 2800. I sure wish somebody can help me with this..

probably the newtral safety switch for sure on yours the switch is made so that the engine can not overrev in neutral or when you are starting it.......mine i am not so sure about....maybe it has to do with a sensor becasue mine will go 4500-4800 then just slow down for about 4-5 sec then back up to the previous RPM hope you can get it fixed hope that helped
