I have a 1987 DT75 on a 18' Florida Skiff. I have had it for several years with no problems. One day it started overheating. I took it in a "specialist" who quoted $300 to fix it. After several broken bolts (that I had to get out for him) and $1000 later, it still overheats. The mechanic now says it is the boat, most likely a broken stringer that is causing the motor to overheat. Is this possible? |

What??? ----- I do not think so----I think the specialist want you to " run away ". Do a compression test as overheat will damage head gaskets. Now removing a cylinder head on a salt water motor may lead to more broken bolts. |

A compression test is normal. The bolts he broke were the head bolts. He took off the head to clean out all the water passages. |

When I got the boat back I started it and saw water coming out from the head gasket area. It turns out the "mechanic" pryed off the head with something that left a groove on the surface. Can anyone tell me what the head bolt torque specs are for the 1987 DT75? Thanks. |
