If I tilt up no problem but if leave down It smokes quite a bit. Could this be a valve problem? If so what is the fix? Thanks Jerry |

Go for the simple things first.
Check is your oil level. Make sure the oil is fresh and clean. It is generally best to keep it a little under the full mark. Too high oil or diluted oil can cause smoking. If the oil is old or diluted, change the oil and filter.
There is a possibility of an valve problem...how old is your motor? A leak down test could help find the problem.
If you leave it sit for long periods between use, what happens if you leave it down but keep it level. Sometimes, if you leave it fully tucked in, the oil can slowly leaking into the cylinders. I know that can happen with some of the smaller motors. Have not heard it with a 40HP. There is always a first time if it is really tucked in. |
