For my 1982 BF100 outboard (10 HP), I am having trouble getting it to go into gear. This was caused by jamming it into gear a couple of times at medium RPMs because the motor wouldn't idle. I fixed the idling problem with carb cleaner. If I jiggle the gear shifter, I can eventually get it into gear, but it is a problem. I know how to drop the lower unit (I changed the impeller a couple of months ago). What should I do? Take the prop. shaft apart? Do I need any special tools to take the prop. shaft apart? Can I take it apart without dropping the lower unit? Thanks for your help! |

I figured out the problem. The shear pin broke. The shear pin would move around and sometimes engage in gear...tricking me to think the motor is working fine. |
