I remove the trottle link rod to check the butterfly operation and noticed they close really slow under spring pressure is this normal, or am I seeing the signs of fiberglass resin breaking down and gumming them up?

Thanks for the reply Just In Time. I thought that they close rather slowly, almost 20 seconds from full throttle to idle position. So they are really gummed up. Just wondering what else will be a problem next, fuel pump, valves that this fiber glass tank breaking down could cause. Anything that be added to the fuel that can push this stuff out further down the line????

JIT,
These motors have a throttle dampener, so the butterflies wont snap back, they will close gradually...

Well Tony thats what they are doing, closing really slow. Like i said between 15-20 second from full to idle. It seems like the cable and linkage is under a lot of strain to open them. At least when i finger operate them individually or are three at once. But if this is how they are supposed to work, then that makes me feel a little better..... Thanks for your reply

No i mean the individual throttle arms on the carbs, opening by finger and watching them close by spring pressure. I got to beleive they are gummed up as they close so slowly.. The dasn pot comes into play with the bottom carb only.

Just pulled the carbs off to see the damage, and they are really gummed up. Intake manifold and everything. Sh-t. The engine still runs good, but i am wondering what will happen further down the line.. valves, rings... So now I wonder if it is worth cleaning and putting back together or just replacing with a new one... any comments
