I have a 2005 BF20 (I bought it BRAND NEW) that from the very first day ran poorly when cold ("the dealer told me as he demonstrated it that the rough starting would go away after a few hours of use") ..that was a lie. I bought this from a dealer 500 miles away because my other motor blew up first day of fishing trip, I am sure he knew he had me at a disadvantage, anyhow: This motor has about 10 hours on it (don't ask) but in any case the motor has acted this way since it was brand new. Any ideas on what is doing this? Thank you.

Hello Joe,

The same happened to me 1 year ago, when I bought a brand new engine just like yours. Mine has an automatic start-enrichment system, so I first thought the automatic valve could be the problem. It turned out it was OK and the problem was just gunk in the carburetor's starting circuit. I could never have thought of such thing, since it was brand new. But it actually seems the Japanese started the engine at the factory and forgot to drain the fuel system...

Good luck!

Henrique
