Just got this Honda BF20 (2hp) from in-laws. Sat withour running for 15+ yrs. with gas inside. Shop did service, changed oil, plug and said it needed new carb. I was able to get it running nicely with carb cleaner. On second filling of gas tank, however, it began to blow oil and smoke out of the exhaust. Afterward, oil smelled like gas and was black.
Any suggestions on diagnosing/repairing problem? Reccommendations on shop manuals? |

I set up and ran the motor again yesterday. It only blows oil out of the exhaust at mid to full throttle. Do you think this is consistent with the fuel pump problem?
Having read your reply to David Smith on 5/4 (Honda 50 fuel in crankcase oil), I suspect we may have a similar problem. Where do you reccommend I get a shop manual and purchase parts? Given past experience, I'm a bit leery of manuals that claim to cover a wide range of models and years.

First time I ran it a lot on full throttle. Significant oil and smoke in exhaust. Afterward the oil smelled like gas. I changed it and since then ran it mostly on low idle. Oil looks clean and doesn't noticeably smell like gas. |
