I purchased a Boston Whale that came with a 2 cycle Yamaha 25 that has not been run in years, serial #25GEM 6H7 500174. I pulled the starter rope and the engine is not frozen, the prop turns properly when the shift lever is moved. What is the suggested sequence to further check out the motor to see if it is going to run without causing any damage? I expect the carb is probably gummed up....should I just give it some gas and oil and pull on the rope & see what happens?? THANKS!!!!

Give it some fresh fuel 50:1, check the gear oil level and run it. If the engine wont run check for spark befor cleaning out the carby

Best to drain, flush and clean the entire fuel system from the tank through the carb before even trying to start it. After several years it has to need cleaning. Then the motor should start right up and run. Change water pump impeller and lower unit fluid. Nice motor!
