Could anyone set the record straight for me? I have a 2004 25Mshc 2 stroke, 2 cylinder Yamaha with a bad rod bearing on the crankshaft. It developed a small amount of rust in the bearing due to what I think is a bad head gasket. Water in the cylinder. Is Yamaha and Mariner the same crank? Can anyone replace the rod and bearing on these one piece crankshafts? I cant afford a new crank and a used one is no where to be found ,so far. Can I look for a Mariner 2stroke 25hp crank? or is Yamaha the only one? I think I can get my outboard back if I can just find a solution to this crank problem. Thank you for your time. |

Rod and bearings can be replaced and are sold seperatly. These are pressed together crankshafts. You'll need to find a shop capable of separating the crank and then pressing it back together. Parts needed are:
6L2-11651-00-00 ROD,CONNECTING $64.59
93310-424W9-00 BEARING $11.84
90209-24M15-00 WASHER,SPEC'L SHAP 2 x $4.13 ea |

Thank you for all the help! Now I just have to find a shop that will do the repair. No one here in Minnesota will do it that I've found yet. |

I have called 7 or more machine shops (automotive) and they wont touch it. They can fix or machine a typical crankshaft or journal but these pressed together cranks are a different story. This type of crankshaft is new to me so Its a learning experiance. Even Crankshaft Supply, the largest in the midwest, who does repair marine crankshafts, cant do it. It just baffles me that motorcycle and snowmobile cranks are set up this way. So I will continue my search with the small engine machine shops. Thanks for the list though, I will knock them off, one by one. |

By the way, I've got a 1992 C25ELRQ 25hp crank if you want to do a test run on separating one. $30 + shipping. |

Joe, It's a liability issue with them. Their affraid they'll damage it and you'll make them buy you a new crank assy. ($500 +) You'll have to relieve them of all liability. |

Ahhh, I see your point. Yep, 527.00 is the best price for a new one. But I just have a rod and rod bearing with a little rust on it so it just seemed to me that I could replace the rod and rod bearing saving alot of money. But its been a tough search for some shop to just do the work. But I see the liability issue. Rod and bearing is around $80.00. so the savings is huge. and its a 2004 25hp so its worth repairing. Thanks again for the advise. |
