Hi
I have a 86 Yamaha 70hp,electric start with a problem.It ticks over perfectly,runs in reverse perfectly but as soon as it gets above 1000RPM in forward gear it starts to make a clunk noise every 5-6 seconds.Just 1 clunk then runs for a while then clunk again
I disconnected the remotes & changed gear by hand and the prob remains so it's not the cables set wrongly.
The timing appears to be spot on.
I've tried running it with each HT lead disconnected in turn.No change.
Any ideas??? |

The clunk doesn't change as the revs go up.stays the same interval.
It's all very annoying |

It may be jumping out of gear, check the condition of your gear oil |

I forgot to mention that I've changed the oil & there was nothing out of the ordinary in the old stuff.
It's doesn't sound like it's jumping out of gear,it's sounds more like something jamming for a fraction of a second.
Its like the timing is firing to early and stopping the engine for a split second then going again.
The timing is spot on though(using 2 different strobes) |

Could be a misfire. Check HT leads and replace the plugs. |
