What can happen to an engines preformance if too much oil is added? I have a 1980 Chrysler 45 hp. It was running ok then Iadded fuel and more oil, I then returned to the lake and opend her up, several times it lost power and gained power. Not sure what it is. |

Adding too much oil usually only results in some extra smoke (unless you try running massive amounts of oil) - outboards are "broken in" at mix rates of 25:1 and run fine. The losing/gaining power could be a number of things including (but not limited to), old spark plugs, a bad fuel pump diaphram, air leak in the fuel line somewhere, clog in the gas tank vent, clog developing in a carb, crank seal leak etc... |
