I wish to service the water pump but cannot see how to remove the upper shift rod from the lower shift rod. I have read the Selco manual and it explains how to dismantle different types of lower unit assemblies however My particular engine does not seem to be listed. My engine has a shift pivot screw the book says do not disturb. also F N R controls
Appreciate any advise

would try and remove the "clam shells" covering the exhaust/intermediate housing the engine is bolted to and you should see the 3/8th "turn buckle" connector with 7/16 lock nut. Just screw this till it comes apart. The lower should hit the ground. You will have to start this coupler as you put it all back together again and adjust for neutral- engine running on flusher, and NO PROP-- till you get even travel between neutral and the gears. Then adjust the control box end by screwing in on the cable end. Don't remove the shift pivot screw.
