When first starting my 75 HP Chrysler, it starts right away and quickly floods out. I wait 10-20 minutes and it starts and runs well. As long as I'm moving, slow or fast, it runs sweet. As soon as I bring it down to idle,as approaching the dock, it floods out again. Any suggestions. |

It would help if you tell us what year your engine is. I have a 1984 Force model although it should be similiar to yours depending on the year of course. Anyway, I had the same problem as you are describing when I first got my boat. Do yourself a favor and replace the fuel pump diaphram. It's a cheap fix and easy to do with a simple screwdriver. What happens is that if the fuel pump diaphram is cracked or leaking, it allows excess fuel to enter the crankcase. At high rpms where more fuel is required, it doesn't effect how it runs much but at idle, it floods out as it is still pouring more fuel than is required regardless of where you have the throttle. It mainly floods out the bottom cylinder but depending on how much the diaphram is leaking, it can flood out all cylinders. Replacing the fuel pump diaphram is something that you should do every couple of years anyway so it's a good place to start. Good luck with it. |

The diaphrams are still made and readily available. Just go to any boat shop and they should either have one or can order one. When I got mine, it cost me $1.69 but that was early last year and my engine is a 1984 Force. 85 HP. In any case, it won't be much and it's easy to replace yourself. Let me know if that takes care of the problem. |

Changed the diaphragm yesterday. I did not see any visual holes in it, but it did look stretched (very used). I started the engine in the driveway using the flush muffs and it started and idled fine. I also cleaned the fuel filter while I had it apart. I'll test it at the lake this weekend. |
