Hey folks, I bought a 1988 125 HP force. The previous owner gave me a manual for the power trim installation. The unit number is 5h196. But the manual says that it is for a 85 HP? Are these after market? My motor does not stay up after trimming in fact it comes down rather fast. Is it possible that this unit is not strong enough for a 125? I can't see any fluid leaking out or the actual model number on the unit. PLEASE any help will be greatly apprceciated
thanx

that is exactly the right system for 1988 3cylinder and larger. Make sure that you have the thrust plate installed before going into regular use. If you operate without thrust plate it will wallow a hole into your engine swivel bracket.

Motor failure and pressure bleed off are normal around the 20 year mark. The motors never wear out ... they just get rust inside. If you put new seals on before the rust gets started then it's almost like having a new motor. The pressure bleed off is from valve body. Motor seals will run you about $30ish and valve body will run you $300 new and $150 rebuild. Then your system will run like new.

for new - search here or google
for used or rebuilt - search ebay or craigslist

the search term most likely to work is
"Chrysler or Force" plus "valve or pump" plus "trim or tilt"

For Ebay, cut and paste following:
(chrysler,force) (valve,pump) (trim,tilt)

Rich, are you confident that that pressure bleed off isn't from the cylinders?

nothing is guaranteed but if you showed me 100 boats with bleed down then at least 95 of them would be caused by valve body. Out of the 5 with bad cylinders 3 of them would have water in the fluid.

Thanx a million Richard for your help. Does the valve body just pull out from the bottom of the unit or is this a complicated tasks?

last I heard they were expensive and backordered till next year. If you're lookijng to buy off shelf go with volvo AQ290 assembly and jack up your wire sizes to handle amps without melting. Otherwise feebay is probably best.

douglas, believe rrit when he tells you something about your t/t system ,as he's all over the different forums. I'm very impressed with his answers and advice to everyone [and he doesn't try to sell his services like other people].If and when I have a problem with my tilt system he will be the one to build it for me.Just my two cents worth

Thanx a lot Frankie I appreciate your help but fortunitly (for me) I've sold the boat with full disclosure to the buyer. I also told him I was pretty sure it was the valve body and easy enough to replace thanx to the advice from this Forum.
Thanx everyone
