I am having the problem that the motor runs rough at idle and will stall out at low speeds, and when we try to increase speed it will bogg down and die. We foul plugs every time we go out and when we take them out they are wet and gas fouled. We have reset the points, and timing and put a new fuel line in last year. The bulb stays hard indicating that there is no air in the lines.....does anyone have an idea as to what could be wrong?

make sure u have good compression and spark,..then,..clean and rebuild the carbs,.and ck linkages and synchronizations.also, pull the plugs, squeeze primer bulb,if it gets alot of gas in a cylinder,..your fuel pump diaphragm is bad.

Can you tell me exactly what oil you are using? I made an interesting finding lately with a certain oil type on my 75 chrysler. It didn't like the oil at all.

Try Quick Silver, Mix 50 to 1 Give it some time to work and YOU will notice a change.

Jennifer,
That's the the brand I was looking for in your answer. I'd switched to using Pennzoil Marine TCW3 because it was a pretty good deal at Kmart, but before I was very long into the 1 gallon jug, I was having bad plug fouling problems. Long story short, I was experiencing plug fouling with a gummy sticky residue on all of my plugs, and it was the oil. I switched back to Valvoline and it burned off all the crap that the Pennzoil left behind.

Before the Pennzoil, I was using Valvoline TCW3, and just out of the bottle they are very very different in consistency and character. I never had a problem while burning Valvoline. The Valvoline, which my chryslers like very much, looks like waste oil and has a smell of ammonia in it. It leaves no residue behind on the plugs or in the cylinders. The Pennzoil is much more syrup like in consistency, and it pours differently too. It looks like it would be better for the engine but the stuff just doesn't burn away as well as some of the others.

I have two full 6 gallon tanks mixed with Pennzoil, and I'm diluting them into my main tank 1 gallon at a time per main tankfull.

By the way, when I switched back to Valvoline, the plug fouling and the left over residues all burned off, leaving nice looking clean plugs again after every trip. Use what you want to, but I'm thinking that the Pennzoil stuff might work better for oil injected engines rather than these old school engines.
Later
Bob
