I have just purchased the above boat and motor. The boat is a Bayliner Classic 16. Both the boat and motor are in like new condition with probably only about 50-60 hours on them. The motor just had a complete tune up and seems to run very well. The motor is what came with the boat at the original sale. The problem is that I don't seem to be able to pull a skier out of the hole and a motor of this size, on a boat of this size, should accomplish this easily. The boat came with a 18-13140-15 prop. I also tried a 10 1/2-13 prop (Mercury Part # 48-816704A40) and neither prop seems to do the job. Any suggestions on a prop that is up to the job. |

I agree that a "boat" this size should be able to pull a skier, but you are a little "under-horsed" for that particular application.
Whoever orginally bought this opted for a lower cost alternative to the standard 85 horse that was packaged with the boat.
The dry weight of the rig is almost 1100 pounds, add another 300 for the engine, a couple more hundred for junk - add the passengers and your 70 is trying to get quite a bit of weight moving out of the hole.
Having said all that, you may want to consider moving to a 4 blade prop. It will take away from your top end but will give you some extra "pull" to pop out of the hole a little better.... |
