Driving boat about 25mph, boat just shut down, overheat alarm sounding, boat would still start up, but when put into gear, would shut off, restart and moved throttle fast past the slow speed gear, managed to stay started and in gear, made it to shore, but moved at no more than 5mph. Motor starts up fine, sounds good, going to replace waterpump and impeller, have any interesting thoughts about the throttle problem. Any interesting suggestions would be appriciated. Thank You

Something gave up on you.
Start with a compression check.

Your model does NOT have any kind of guardian system that will restrict the rpms if something goes wrong - so something is definately wrong and probably alot more than simply an impeller...

Will do a comp check, changing impeller because no water coming out of hole when motor is running, had boat for a few years and never chaged it, any other suggestions on that throttle problem would be very helpfull. Thanks

To quickly determine if it's a throttle problem - with the motor (not running) simply move your shifter to full throttle.

The 3 butterflies on the 3 carbs should be totally horizontal (so that you can see right into the carb throats. If the linkage is moving fine, the throttle is not the problem.

I just spent 20 hours this past weekend rebuilding a 1990, 90 horse force - so it is very fresh in my mind :-)

We had a 50hp do the same thing! - there was a bypass tube from the thermostat housing to the exhaust port, when it overheated it made a hole in it. not sue if you have that, might want to check for that too.
