hi everybody ,Bill here looking for help.. I have a 115 merc 1984 vintage don`t seem to be getting any spark just bought the boat knew it was not running. I was told it ran good two years ago was put away and that is when I came along.. I brought the boat home took out the gas tank , took out plugs squirted oil in cyl let sit for a while turned flywheel by hand then hooked it up to battery through ign switch and cranked it.. seemed good put plugs back in fresh fuel ,new tank cranks but no spark .. At first saw some spark , very weak at plugs now nothing.. I did find some frayed wires under starter coming from stator?? under flywheel front of motor and repaired them looked like two white wires , but still no spark .. I am not a mechanic just a hobbist any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Bill |

you can download what you need for troubleshooting here http://cdielectronics.com/Downloads/tabid/55/language/en-US/Default.aspx look in the troubleshooting section and the dva specs color codes here http://www.maxrules.com/fixMERCwiringcodes.html I would remove the flywheel from the engine and inspect what you have. The black/yellow wire on the switch box needs to be removed and test for spark. It grounds the ign, if removed you can rule out the key and harness wiring and safety switch. But it sounds like you might have engine problems, mice like those wires. |
