I have a 40 EFI Mercury outboard. It's a 2003 and every year when I change oil the filter is clean. No oil whatsoever is in the filter. I even put a paper towel inside and no residue when I took it out. Is this normal?

hi Rick,try running the engine,in water obviously,then turn it off,then straight away,take the filter off.see if theres any oil
