Boat has two mariner 150hp's. Starboard engine turned over slowly (weak battery). Flipped battery switch to "both" position which allowed port battery to be put on starboard engine. Engine started, then failed. Stator was fried!!
Replaced stator, and recharged weak battery. Month later tried to start starboard engine again, turned over slow. Battery seemed weak. Foolishly again flipped battery switch putting strong port battery on engine and it started, ran for few seconds then died. It would hit and miss. Gave up and went home. Took it back to shop and was told that both switch boxes were fried. I am to bring boat home in couple of days. What can I check to see if outside source is frying my spark circuit? How can the 12 volts from switch cause such a problem ..or is it a fluke that it happens when switch is thrown to put other battery on engine????? please }}}help

Hi Randall
Maybe when you throw the switch it gives 24v,have a look at how the battery cables are wired up.

Good thought! THANKS Will check that soon as get boat back. Hard to see how it could be putting batts in series instead of parallel, but, well, any thing can happen when you buy something that has had a problem....and it continues to pop up. If you can think of anything else I can check, please let us know.
