I have a 90hp outboard Mercury motor. I have the serial number but I am trying to find out what year the motor is. I bought the boat in 2003 from a dealer and had trouble at that time getting financing because the dealer stalled on getting me the information for the engine. Where can I go online or who can I call to find out? |

Post the serial number and the year of actual production can be looked up. The Merc "serial" is actually just a production number. It does NOT have any information encoded into it like the year, horsepower etc, simply a one up number from when it rolled off the production line. Merc does not have "Year" model motors. So if the one you bought in 2003 had actually been built in 1999, it still would have been sold as a brand new 2003 model, with full warranty, and without the production number, no tech on the planet could dispute that it was/wasn't a 2003 model because they were mechanically identical all the way back to 1995. Merc is not forthcoming - even to their dealers as to the actual production date of alot of their products. I personally have Merc production lists upto and including the 2005 models (last year they produced most of the 2 stroke line) and can look it up for you... |
