Hi guys Looking for help again. mariner 55 2 cyl 2 stroke ser no 663318314 believed to be a 1987 can anyone please tell me the part number for the starter motor. someone has fitted the wrong starter to this engine and i need the correct one either new or secondhand. regards gordon |

You have,if I have been reading Grahams posts correctly,a yamaha built motor.Graham jump on me if I'm wrong,here's a link to yamaha 2cyl 55's http://www.iboats.com/Yamaha_Outboard_Starters/dm/cart_id.516855718--session_id. 927691670--view_id.269641 oh painful on the wallet. Noel, you are doing fine on your own Yes, the 55 was a bit of an orphan and most of the older Yami/Mariners have very expensive starting components. You may want to contact ARCO and see if they have a cross ref for the starter, but think you will find it expensive even if they do. |

took the starter to a marine electrical dealer today he took apart lubed the bronze bearings, skimmed the stator on the lathe and cleaned the brushes. fitted back on and runs like new. and guess what.. no charge there are some good guys left in the world. thanks for all your help guys, what a wonderful site this is. keep up the good work.
