You have,if I have been reading Grahams posts correctly,a yamaha built motor.Graham jump on me if I'm wrong, here's a link to yamaha 2cyl 55's http://www.iboats.com/Yamaha_Outboard_Starters/dm/cart_id.516855718--session_id. 927691670--view_id.269641 oh painful on the wallet. There is another in the sierra catalog page 393,minus the solenoid fits 55-60 hp 2cyls motors. http://ww2.sierramarine.com/catalog_pdf_8025/8025-393.pdf .Hope this helps.

Noel, you are doing fine on your own :-)

Yes, the 55 was a bit of an orphan and most of the older Yami/Mariners have very expensive starting components.

You may want to contact ARCO and see if they have a cross ref for the starter, but think you will find it expensive even if they do.

took the starter to a marine electrical dealer today he took apart lubed the bronze bearings, skimmed the stator on the lathe and cleaned the brushes. fitted back on and runs like new. and guess what.. no charge there are some good guys left in the world.
thanks for all your help guys, what a wonderful site this is. keep up the good work.
