I tried starting my 81 115 horse merc, ran the battery dead, changed the battery and now it just makes a grinding noise. Sounds like it's in the starter but could it just be the sylenoid?? Any help would be appreciated |

If the soleniod goes bad it usually just clicks when you turn the key and won't let power get to the starter motor. I know this becasue I just had this happen to me. Odds are it is the starter. |
