Dan can you recheck the serial part, the 1xxxx series never got above 10xxxx.

If you transposed it (105323) it will be a 1986 model.

In any event, you have a 1980-something Yamaha built (for Merc) "C" model Mariner.

I did a recheck on my serial # and it is correct. Why can't I find this number on any of the charts that I look on? Any help would be really great.

Ok, more diggin' and I found it. It is a late 1989 built model that would have sold as a new 1990.

This was a modified "C" model that they simply referred to as the "oil injected" 40.

The last 3 years of the model run they built these with full blown oil injection (pump on the powerhead) and changed the serials to 15xxxx.

Seloc's never produced a manual that covered the post 1989 Yamaha built Mariners.

You may have to check with Merc to see if you can get a service manual. I can't find a parts number listing for it, so you may need to find a patient dealer who will take the time to enquire.

Alternately, you might find a Seloc's for Yamaha that would cover your motor. You would have to find out which manual would cover the Yamaha model 40FE with oil injection - I don't have decent enough charts to give the year range that Yami sold it under their own colours/decals, but would have been late 80's early 90's.

Here's a link to the parts diagrams, part numbers and list prices...

Hello Graham -

The new GF has a pontoon with a Mariner 40 S/N OD210642 with an front-mounted oil tank. She thinks that she needs to premix, but unless that tank is for the tilt/trim system, I know why the plugs get fouled.

Anyway, can you please confirm that it's a 92-93 vintage motor? I'll take the rest of my questions to the appropriate forum.

Thanks!

Yes, it is a 1993, Merc/Mariner. And yes, it is oil injected.

It has a factory set, constant ratio 50:1 oil pump.

It's always a good idea, at the start of every season to run premixed gas and monitor the oil level in the tank. Once you confirm it's actually "eating oil from the system", then you are good to go.

Here's a diagram of the components -
