I am struggling to seperate the lower unit from the engine to inspect the water pump.I have removed the nut and set screw either side of the skeg and backed off the nuts either side of the housing, using the nuts to try and jack the unit apart.I have tapped fox wedges between the faces and have a gap of about 1/4". The flywheel locks up, can I apply more pressure without causing serious damage? How does the gear linkage seperate? I can't see any way of getting penetrating oil in or heat. Can you drill a 1/2" hole that can be tapped and plugged in the spline area to squirt penetrant? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Remove everything highlighted in red and the lower unit should slide off. See pdf...
