ball shifter forward or reverse all of a sudden hard shifting. is there an adjustment or is this a sign of a problem.

Could be a sign of a seized cable. Disconnect the cables at the motor end of things.

If the control shifter works easy, there is a problem with the motor.

If the shifter is still stiff, most likely the cables are on the way out...
