I've just bought a 1989 40hp Mariner, serial number 6E9-L-351933, and the person i bought it from has disconnected some of the wires from the on/off/kill switch on the front of the engine, subsequently (and obviously) it won't run. the person who disconnected them doesn't know how they go back together, as he did it about 4 years ago. Does anyone have any information as to how i reconnect them? mostly, which ones connect to which other. at the moment, only one lead is connected from the switch, which appears to be an earth. It also looks like it might have had an electric start on it at some point, so this could have been why the wires are all disconnected. I can take pictures and post them if required. Thanks in advance, Gav. |

I've actually managed to get a hold of a wiring diagram for my engine, it appears that i may have some parts missing , namely the Regulator/rectifier, and possibly a CDI unit? Can anyone point me in the right direction for somewhere to get these parts? Thanks, Gav. |

Merc dealer. The engine was built by Yamaha for Merc so a Yami dealer may be able to help as well. The Yamaha model this was copied from was the 40FE - parts are identical. For Merc part numbers go to this exact link - just don't let your heart stop when you learn the CDI box sells for over 200 bucks. www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_Pictures3.asp?dnbr=814840&ivar=images/MERMAR/814840 /9.png&inbr=544&bnbr=40&bdesc=MAGNETO The aftermarket companies never really picked up on the Yami/Mariners but ignition components may be available from CDI/Rapier - you can have a look at www.ebasicpower.com to see if you can find parts numbers... |

Hi, thanks for that information, from looking at the technical stuff i can find for this engine, it appears to be the CDI unit that is missing. My local dealer is trying to locate a part for me, but he's not sure if he'll be able to find a part. I can't seem to find the CDI unit on www.ebasicpower.com either unfortunately, i'm currently scouring ebay and any other websites to see if i can locate one. Thanks again for the info, Gav. |
