Hello I have a 2001 merc 150. When in gear at idle speed the motor makes a clunk ca clunk sound. If I increase speed it seems to balance out. The lower unit was going bad so i replaced it. I hoped the clunk would go away with the new unit but it did not. Not sure but it seems like theres a bearing going bad. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Is it going to do damage if i continue to run it this way? I was hoping not to have to pull the powerhead apart if it can wait till summer is over.

yes it will, can put a piston through the block then you'd be really unhappy as an entire block is more money then just a connecting rod and bearing.
