I have a mid-90's 115hp Mariner that will not start. It is turning over but will not start. I have a feeling that this is a fuel issue but am not sure. I had it started and when I started to open it up it died and I have not been able to start it since. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Hi Aaron.try new plugs, fresh fuel.can u drain each carb,so u put fresh fuel in each.the primer bulb should be supple and flexible[they can go v hard to pump]pump until it goes hard[carbs all full, and fuel system ready]then retry starting.also make sure battery[ies] are fully charged.make sure choke is being activated |

I am confused though because I took it out on Friday evening and it ran fine. Then on Sunday is when it died on the lake and would not restart. Would all of this occur this fast? |

Yes - I have seen the following - started no problem on Saturday morning - cruised around all day, starting/stopping - fish for a bit, fires up right away - all is fine - coming back into the dock maybe 100 yards out, throttled down and she quit - wouldn't start for anything - used the kicker to get back in. Carb had developed a clog in the float valve - throttling down (without the float closing properly) flooded out all the cylinders - had to dry her all out to get it to fire at all - took it home, pulled, cleaned and rebuilt the carb - no more problems. This was "MY" motor which sees 10 times as much maintenance compared to any of the regulars that I work on. To be fair to motor however, that was my 86 model (with a little over 2000 hours on it, so I guess it really was time for a carb rebuild anyhow - had never been pulled since brand new) and that was the first time any of my motors had ever quit on the water (which is still the reason I will not leave the dock with only one motor on the transom) I always run new gas, always add stablizer, use a water separator filter plus the regular gas filter on the motor - decarb approx once a month - stored properly etc etc. Sometimes you can do everything right and still get some crud in the system. |
