1993 mercury 40 hp 4 cyl. Not firing, thought for sure it was the switchbox, replaced it, no fire, removed yellow and black wire from box, no fire. Stator and trigger checks good, what next? Still waiting on mechanic!!!This pontoon took a pretty hard bang against the pier the day it stopped running. Cannot find any wiring that may have tripped or caused engine not to fire, but I am supicious this is something very simple causing engine not to fire. Any advice appreciated. |

when you removed the bl/y wire did you also remove the mercury tilt switch wire if equipped. It prevents spark when the engine is tilted |

I cannot find a tilt switch. Is there anything else to prevent from starting other than kill wire or tilt switch? There is a run/off toggle switch attached to quicksilver control. |

from your picture (previous post) disconect 3rd wire up on right side of switchbox. That should take the ign switch, man overboard switch, and mercury switch out of the system. It should have spark. The mercury switch is part #18 in this pic http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury_parts/543/30.cfm Send me a couple of pics of the switch box close up and the other side of the engine and we'll find the tilt switch. Check for spark with the engine down, smack the case to reset tilt switch when lowered. |
