Been working on a mark 55 LU and I can't get that big prop shaft nut off. (It's bad corroded.) Tried heat, penetrating oil, incantations, etc. Uh-uh. It's like the threads are welded together. Other than smashing the nut to pieces--to save the housing--has anyone got an idea what to do next? I'm stumped. Jeff |

Hi,im a great believer in disc cutters,.if u get a 4inch metal cutting disc, and put it on the side of the nut,c if it will cut the nut without touching the prop,.if it will then u can disc cut the nut without touching the threads.then split the nut after.handy hint 1.12pm |

Drill through the face of the nut at two points 180 degrees apart. Start with an eighth inch bit and increase to a larger bit. Eventually you will be able to split the nut with just a few taps on a small chisel. |

IBN: Tried that with 90 lbs and only succeeded in wrecking my nomemade nut wrench a few times. It's corroded badly. Ian: Not the nut that holds the prop on; it's the big aluminum nut inside the case. Thanks Bob. I'll try that. Now I'll need to find me another nut. Anyone have a source? Jeff |

Update: Managed to claw all the seals out and will replace them with the stubborn prop shaft still in place. (Used an oxy/acetylene torch to blow the water pump cartridge out! Exciting.) Still looking for another prop shaft nut if you see one someplace. Thanks, Jeff |
