Nope - this is just a CDI ignition, so can't even plug her in to have it read like you would if it was ECU controlled.
"Hours" on an outboard is often a mis-interpreted number.
This motor is 8 years old - if it has LESS than 800 hours on it, it has been severely under used.
If an outboard motors displacement is greater than it's horsepower you can usually count on getting 2000 hours of service from it. If the horsepower exceeds the displacement you may expect to rebuild it somewhere between the 800-1200 hour mark - BUT only if the motor sees consistant use and regular maintenance.
More motors end up in the scrap heap due to under-use than over-use.
Motors that do not see much use rarely see any service work. If a motor is only used 20 hours a year it most probably has an original oil filter, oil and plugs in it. Owners just don't spend the money to maintain something that only gets out a couple of long weekends a year.
Since this is a 4 stroke I wouldn't touch it if it had "low hours", they are more prone to issues from "under use" than their 2 stroke counter parts.
In fact, if you are just "looking" at this motor I would insist on seeing all service records for this motor. |
