The last couple of times out on the boat, my boat has been going very slow on full throttle. After keeping it on full throttle for about 5 minutes, the boat eventually picks up speed and gets to full speed. Can anyone point me in the right direction on what to check for?

I have a Mariner Marathon 135hp (1988)

Where to start?

How's the compression?
You getting good spark to all cylinders?

How old is 1) the gas 2) sparkplugs

How old is the waterpump impeller? last serviced when?

It could be a compression, ignition, or fuel issue - which covers just about everything.

If the compression is good and you are not losing spark, then you start with the fuel system (beginning at the tank vent and working all the way back to the motor, through the carbs).

I'm not trying to be smart here, but almost anything can cause loss of power/sluggishness.

You just need to decide where to start troubleshooting first and compression then spark are the two easiest...
