I have not run this motor since last year. Fresh gas. New fuel supply lines. New screw on fuel/water seperator filter. New plugs. Using a water tank to test. Engine will crank only if I press the shifter bypass button move throttle to about half way. With throttle level I can rev engine to max and will run at idle speed with throtttle lever at approx 1/8 up. When lever is brought back to neutral position engine dies immediately. Engine is hard to start even at half throttle. I put boat in lake and tried to rev engine and quickly shift into gear but stops as soon as it reaches the neutral position.

Hi,are u starting with the choke on,and then warming engine with fast idle lever up a bit.probably sounds basic, but have to start somewhere.will it start with just the choke?could try some of that Merc tuneup spray can that Graham suggests, and follow directions. 2pm
