i just bought a boat with a 60 hp mariner on it. i found that you have to remove the kill wire from pack to make unit run. would that be the stator or trigger bad? also unit runs about 15-20 minutes then dies, i have a water muff on unit but no water coming out just below motor. i assume that the water pump is out and that temp is shutting down unit. could you enlighten me on these issues please. |

The kill wire goes to the key. I would start there. Nothing wrong with the stator. |

Hi Joseph, you say your running for 15 mins with no water coming out.BAD NEWS,Never run the motor unless theres water coming out the telltale. With earmuffs on,even when motor not running, should have water coming out of tell tale with moderate water pressure.muffs in right place?Get the water pump checked.9.30am mon |

i took boat to lake and put in water and got started. let run for about 15 minutes and motor stopped. flywheel will only turn 1 complete revolution and stop now. pulled plugs and pistons are moving, can also put motor in gear and turn 1 revolution by prop. did notice that the plug covering the flywheel nut melted. i feel that there is a cooling problem but what could have caused the motor to lock like that. i work on diesels but boat motors are a whole different ballgame. |
