Looking for numbers/letters and the only ones I could find were Y2 and 677. Does this have anything to do with year and make? Wondering about fuel ratio, suggested spark plugs, and lower unit lubricant? Maintenance manual? Thanks for any help. |

The "677" tells me that it's a 1977-83 Yamaha built "B" model Mariner. The entire model run was mechanically identical, so the exact year is not important from a parts perspective. The 8 horse "B" model was not overly prolific in North America but Merc does still stock many maintenance parts for it. Mix gas at 50:1 with regular unleaded and TCW3 rated marine 2 stroke oil. Lower unit can use any "marine" gear oil (except type C) - or ANY 80 or 90 weight gear oil that is GL-5 rated. Spark plugs should be NGK B7HS's gapped at .024" Maint manual - Seloc's Mariner manual for 1 and 2 cylinder (1977-1989 models). |
