My mid 1980's Mercury 9.9 was running full out across the lake today when suddenly it lost power to the prop while the engine went into high rev. I was able to get back to the dock at low speed but when ever I applied more than minimal throttle it would just rev up but not put power to the prop. Any ideas on what this could be? |

Prop hub is slipping. Scratch a mark on the hub and prop, take it for a spin, then see if the marks moved. They should not have. Jeff |

sounds like the spline on the driveshaft into the motor has stripped,or the prop rubber bushing has come unstuck.put in gear, motor stopped,on land, and have a look, and rock prop and c what u can hear clunking.make sure its going into gear fully on the g/shift |

Do I need a new prop? The prop blades are perfect just the rubber around the copper sleeve inside the prop is history. Can this be repaired? |

Sure. A good prop shop will press in a new bushing. Jeff |
