Went to start engine yesterday, temp/oil light/horn sounded and shut off as normal - but a low, constant tone remained, whether engine was running or not and is not emitting from the temp/oil gauge. Engine starts and runs fine - oil resevoir full and functioning - new fuel seperator filter.
Opened console and sound seemed to be coming from Tachometer, with a light - but looks like the backlight bulb. An icon on the Tach looks like the gear shifter. I checked the original Manual, but nothing noted there. Any suggestions ??

Hi,

How's wiring? There was a post here recently with similar issue and turned out that wiring was chewed up / poor grounding or deteriorated insulation. Original poster was not clear as to the fix.

Go through the harness meticulously for clean grounding & connections first, we'll take it from there.

Cheers from a very chilly & sunny Johannesburg, South Africa!

Yes, in fact it was grounded wiring that caused the constant tone. The wire had somehow become fused and must have deteriorated to the point of grounding. The fix was an entire new run of that wire, from console to engine.

Thanks for the follow up, Mr. Jones - from a grey and soggy Martha's Vineyard Massachusetts!!

Tim
