Hi everyone! I have a mid 1970s Mercury 2 stroke 115 horsepower outboard engine. It always ran great, but one day, it began to slow down all of a sudden at top end, as it was losing power. I rebuilt the fuel pump as the diaphram was shot, but the problem is still there. When this is happening, if somebody pumps the manual fuel primer, the engine stops losing power and runs perfectly normal again. The carbs are all clean, and all the lines and fuel filter are in great shape. Somebody told me to tighten all the bolts on the intake manifold as that is a common problem as it is a tendency for that to happen and lose gas around the seams. I did that, as some bolts were loose, but before I put it back into the water to try it, does anyone have any more suggestions for me? Thanks.

Did you replace the check valves when you rebuilt the fuel pump?

Yes, the check valves were replaced also. Is there anything else it can be?

Thanks.

Try another fuel tank and fuel line. These cause the most fuel starvation problems and are usually overlooked.
