I recently purchased a 1997 40 Mariner and it stalls when you put it in gear. Although it seems to run rich (blue smoke) it idles fine. I’ve had someone out to check it out and he rebuilt the carbs, replaced the fuel line, tank, filter and rebuilt the fuel pump and it still does the same thing. However after about 5 minutes of sitting at idle it will stall out on it’s own, almost like it’s loading up. Compression was checked and ok 125-126 each cylinder, new plugs, spark was checked on each plug too. We adjusted the throttle cable to bump the idle up and still the same thing.
Could it have something with a stator? Or shift cables/adjustments. Any help would be appreciated. |

First thing you need to do is a link & sync. I highly recommend you get a manual for this as there are certain steps that is must be done in. |

BTW, the throttle cable is not the correct place to adjust the idle. Also you will need a timing light to properly do the link & sync. |
