I have changed the stator, switch box and both coils all of which checked out to be bad. I have ohmed the trigger and it checks out to be good but still no fire. Whats next? Thanks in advance! Mike |

disconect black/yellow wire at switch box, that will test the key switch and wiring to engine. Are both magnets still on the flywheel? |

I have to ask, bare with me, you say no fire, are you checking the plugs for spark or are you saying it just won't start? I have all the spec's for that engine to test everything but the switch box, you said there all new, do you need the trigger, coil specs? The older stator style had the charging curcuit built into the stator, it is possible the rectifier can wipe out the spark, disconnect the yellow wire from it. You can find a test for the rectifier here, bottom right http://www.themarinedoctor.com/cgi-bin//YaBB.pl Put the top piston on TDC, does the timing marks line up with the pointer up front? One more thought, when the flywheel was off for the stator, was it removed WITH inner hub or was it removed by un-bolting from the inner hub

check the plugs with spark tester, I have the specs for the coils and trigger, the trigger is reading 750 ohms and the coils are new. Timing marks do align and I removed the flywheel and inner hub as one unit. |

trigger test is dead on stator test bl/wh and grd = 120-180ohms bl/yl and grd = 3200-3800 bl/yl and bl/wh = 3100-3700 retifier test (doughtfull) disconect leads test between grey and yellow = 65 ohms lead to either gray or yl and grd = no continuity when removing bl/yl wire on switch box, remove the one going to mercury tilt switch and to stop switch. Leave the bl/yl from stator hooked. good vidio http://www.meegsonline.com/tmd/DVAmovie.wmv http://www.themarinedoctor.com/CandS.wmv |

turned out to be the trigger, I tested it in place and it appeared to be good; however after removing it the same test was performed and it proved to be bad. Thanks for the help. |
