Jim, by that serial you have a 1984, electric start, long shaft Mariner built by Yamaha for Mercury.

Hello, I believe I have the same motor and am also looking for information regarding my motor. The best I can tell my motor is also a 1984 serial number 55 EL 663 315972. The Nada books says its a 3 cylinder, but mine is a 2 cylinder. I just purchased a used repair manual for a Mariner 55EL and assuming it is the right manual for us I am willing to share any all information from the book. I should get it later this week, let me know if you are interested. Jim
