Hi,
I have a 150 hp, black max that I have just purchased second hand. It idles pretty rough, but it drove ok for approx. 15 minutes. Once we got to destination and bought engine back to idle it cut out and when we accelerated again it bogged down under load and takes a long time to get going. I have checked fuel and ratios, all ok. On trip back from destination, it would go ok at times, and without moving throttle it would start bogging down, and then kept cutting out at idle. Plugs and filters were changed recently. Any ideas, cheers.

Outboard motors are hard working and often neglected machines.Do not run the motor until you sort out the basics.Remember a plugged carburetor means that the cylinder it feeds is not getting fuel and most of all NO OIL.Start with a compression test , followed by a check that you have spark at each cylinder that will jump a gap of 7/16". You can hook up a timing light while the engine is running to verify spark at each cylinder. You can use a good flashlight to look into carburetor bores to verify fuel delivery at full throttle.Unless you sort out the problem you risk damaging the motor. It will not magically fix itself.

Donnie, that's an 83 Yamaha built model. Will mix at 50:1, regular unleaded and TCW-3 rated Marine 2 cycle oil...
