Hi folks,It's me,again,,new prop, flo torq system, with three on board, average size, takes a little while to get on plane,13"x19p,when on plane, I'm getting 38-40mph in calm water,Would I get up quicker if I put a 17p on? I know I would lose some speed Oh and I ran aground and ran prop, again, hub sleeve, $19.99 on this site,£20stg at my nearest Merc dealer,Any ideas on getting up quicker or hints on what I'm doin' wrong appreciated,Should I have posted this in the misc section? Thanks to everyone

need to know rpm at WOT, but yes a less aggressive pitch will get you going quicker. Might want to invest in a depth finder. Don't want to over pitch prop either, to much load and boom, funs all over

4 blade will pop you out quicker as well as keep you on plane a lower speed - but again, you lose some top end due to extra drag so normally go down 2" of pitch right off the bat, 3 - 4 if you go with cupped blades (which really gives you a nice hole shot)....

Hi JB,Graham, JB,I haven't figured out why tacho isn't reading what my ear is telling me,though there seems to be more travel in the throttle but nothing left in the control cable ie. the control lever is as far as it will go, then it's not beyond the realms of possibility that I'm going deaf, and I do have a depth/fish finder, present from my very, ever tolerant Wife. Graham,I was thinking, which is rough on the gray matter,of getting a 17" pitch, but may consider cupped blades, any way I need a spare prop so I must invest. Thank you very much for your replies. PS there's a story about the depth/fish finder.I'll spare myself more blushes. Thanks again

are you saying its not wide open or just sounds that way. remove cover, throw lever forward or have wife do something and look down carbs for fully open. I respectfully disagree with Graham, don't get a 4 blade prop. It will slow the hole shot down even more, to much bite.

Hi JB, thanks for the quick response,I can move the throttle arm forward after the shift lever reaches limit of travel and rpm increases, but I can't seen to ajust the cable to travel that far without leaving rpm seemingly high at idle, not synchronized correctly? Need to sort out tach, and I think I read in previous posts not to run wot in neutral/no load in a tank and I can't go in the water until replacement sleeve arrives.Wife won't go on water,no like. Thanks again

yes, no high throttle in neutral. With engine OFF, remove cover and look at carb butterflies for fully open, with control full forward. You'll figure it out, you have more experiance than us now.

Hi there!

Here's my 2 cents worth...

If you're going to buy 2 new props, if I read correctly... Get two different pitch's. This will help you later on in deciding which gives gives best performance regarding consumption and speed... Or one cupped and other not, in same pitch.

Just a thought...

Regards!

Benjamin.

Hey JB,I'll be a long time on this planet before I'll have a tenth of the experience of you and the others who take time out to answer people like me who go to pubs, get full of Guinness and buy boats,so thanks for all the advice and tips, Hi Benjamin, I was thinking along those lines myself,I'll probably opt for a 17" pitch as I already have a 19" pitch, and my good lady is away to see if there are any trees left to make more money thanks again folks.New sleeve arrived today will try it a the weekend weather permitting, and no other damage done
