Hi,

I have a Mercury Outboard motor. It is a 115hp (that's what the outside panel says, anyway). The serial # is 6128030. I can't find this number anywhere in the serial guides or lookups. It says 3cyl 2cycle, but there are 6 spark plugs in it. Can someone please help me find the year of this motor and is this a 6cyl or a 3cyl?

Thanks,
Kenya

That is a good serial for a 1982, 115 horse, inline 6 cylinder Merc.

So it should be a 6 cylinder, refered to as a "tower of power" because the profile is tall with the cylinders all in line.....

I was wondering if I paid too much for this motor. I just bought it yesterday and paid $700 for it with the 17" prop. I have no idea how much these type of motors price at. This one does run, so did I do ok or did I pay way too much?

Thanks,
Kenya

These motors have quite a following in some circles. Parts can be difficult to locate but there is still alot of them out there running - and really, an 82 model is not that old - alot of outboards built in the 60's are still pushing boats along quite nicely.

So, is 700 a good price for a running 115 - considering a new 115 would run you about 10k - all perspective I guess.

The "book" price wouldn't agree, but if the motor is in decent shape, what you paid sounds fine...
