Bandit wants you to pull the b/y wire grounding the ign, this wire is the one on the switchbox that goes to the key switch. when pulled there will be no way to shut the motor off, use the choke. Your engine is a 1982. Have you checked the trigger and stator yet? |

i havent checked the stator or trigger. how do i do that? i tried the pulling to b/y wire off the switch box and it didnt work. i checked the timing and it seems to be that it is off around 50deg, or atleast the marks on the fly wheel and top dead center of the top piston which i think is #1 which i dont know im just guessing because its easiest to get to. |

top cyl is number 1, if its 50 degrees off you might have sheered the key in the flywheel, yourspark would be messed up. trigger test= disconect leads, test between br/yl and br/wh= 650-850 ohms stator test= disconect leads, test leads between bl/wh and grd= 120-180 bl/y and grd=3200-3800 bl/y and bl/w=3100-3700 the stator and trigger are under the flywheel, it must be removed to replace either one. The flywheel can be removed with a steering wheel puller bolted to the flywheel (no jaws). It should be bolted to the 2 screws with the lock washers under the head, the ones around the center. http://www.marinepartsman.com/ bottom left for help would you like to tell me what points you filed? |

well i guess what we thought were the points was the stator and it was really rusty so we took the rust off timming is back to were it is closer still not sure if it is right but i know its close its set to about 6deg above tdc and thanks ill give that a try |

the stator is at the bottom, the trigger is at the middle/right, the charging circuit is above. your charge and stator might be combined as one unit.On the left is the mercury (tilt) switch, it grounds out the ign if the engine is tilted. Something else to remove if you are having troubles. But since you disconected the bl/yl wire on the switch, its not the problem. Graham, look at that pic |

the red wire goes to the rectifier, its for charging the battery and running lights, should be hooked to a 20amp fuse if I remember correctly. The rectifier sometimes can short out the stator if its bad. I beleive disconecting the yellow wire will test that. Hooking the battery up backwards also causes damage. Perhaps a manual is in order |
