Just picked up a used bass boat with I believe to be a 1985 Mariner 75 HP. The serial # is 0B166750. Would appreciate it if anyone could verify the year. It is oil injected and still is working fine. Any problems with the oil injection or should I eliminate it and mix the oil with the gas? Thanks for any suggestions

Dave, your motor is a 1986 model which should make this one of the 3 cylinder models. If so, this is the powerhead that still lives today as the 90 horse (with a few changes over the years).

The 3 cylinder 75/90 horse Merc's were/are probably their most durable mid-range horsepower motors that they ever cranked out...

Thanks for the quick response Graham, it is appreciated. Any comments on the oil injection? It seems to be working fine but I was wondering if there were any serious problems with it? Mixing with the gas wouldn't be a problem as I only have a 12 gallon tank.

I have just purchased a Mariner 5, model 661 S, serial number 029969. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what year the motor is.

Dave, the oil pump on this is gear driven and if working fine the general consensus is to leave it alone.

Personally, I am not fond of automatic oilers of any description - I would rather toast a motor because I forgot to mix the gas/oil as opposed to an oil pump giving up at full throttle without warning and welding the pistons - but that's just me...
