50hp outboard 6 gal tank..do you have to vent the tank when running? it seems the more I vent the tank I lose power and stall...thank you |

Hi there!
You sure you're opening the vent and not closing it? Sounds like a starvation issue because no air is being let into the tank and fuel cannot be pulled up into the pump.
Or..
The pressure caused by fuel gushing around is supplying pressure to the fuel line. Maybe the pump is acting up and the pressure in the tank is compensating?
Way to test would be to open the vent, wait for motor to start spluttering, then pump the fuel bulb. If it picks up again, check the pump and fuel connections for possible air leak...
