The motor starts fine, some time it misses a little. When I throttle up motor it misses, or dies. when I get it to run at higher RPM it sounds like it is speeding up, and slowing down slightly. It also back fires with quiet little puffs of white smoke.
Gas is fresh.
I think it's the float sticking, or fuel pump diaphram.

Monnie, I work on alot of these little Merc's and it has been my experience that when you get a backfire such as you describe it is "usually" a bad gasket in the exhaust end of things.

Either the gasket for the exhaust cover (side of the motor) or the gasket between the powerhead/plate/exhaust housing.

Additionally, a powerhead that is not torqued down properly to the leg will cause a backfire with a small puff of white smoke (that usually exits underneath the carb)....

Will this also cause the motor to die under a load? The motor seems to run fine then dies while I am under way at low speed. It starts after dieing with just one pull.
It acis like it not getting gas?
